چکیده

In Differentiated Services networks, packets may receive a different treatment according to their Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) label. As a consequence, packet marking schemes can be devised to differentiate packets belonging to a same TCP flow, with the goal of improving the experienced performance. This paper presents an extensive performance evaluation of a new adaptive packet marking scheme, applied to a traffic scenario composed of TCP flows with different length. The proposed marking scheme is most efficient when applied to a scenario composed of all longlived flows. In a realistic mixed traffic scenario, composed of both long-lived and short-lived TCP flows, our marking scheme provides excellent performance in high utilization conditions, and still provides improved performance in medium utilization conditions, comparable with that achieved by a recently proposed marking algorithm specifically devised for short-lived flows. We also propose a “three colors” marking scheme, which merges this approach with ours to achieve improved performance in all utilization conditions.

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

TCP-aware packet marking in networks with DiffServ support

In the context of Differentiated Service, the Assured Forwarding class recently proposed by the IETF offers the capabilities of distinguishing two or more classes of packets, based on bit marking in packet headers. Originally, packet marking was intended to be performed according to the aggregate user-profile in the DiffServ model. In this paper we show the benefit of an alternative strategy in...

Packet marking for Web traffic in networks with RIO routers

RIO routers, initially proposed in the context of Differentiated Services networks, distinguish between two classes of packets – In-profile and Outprofile – based on a one-bit marking in packet headers. Traditionally, packetmarking is performed by ingress routers according to a user-profile specified in terms of bandwidth. In this paper, we consider an alternative strategy in which packets are ...

Comprehensive performance model of differentiated service with token bucket marker - Communications, IEE Proceedings-

Differentiated services (DiffServ) networks use two type of routers: edge routers mark the packet headers according to their service profile, while the core routers implement queue management to provide service differentiation between packets according to information in their packet headers. Most previous studies on the performance of DiffServ have considered either the effect of the edge marki...
